Welcome to the board, hopefully you can make it out to some of the meets in the east end on a wednesday nite. Awesome choice in car, My fav part about the SiR is probably the seats....there so comfy.

Here's a pic of one of the more highly modified SiR's on the board

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. Well that answers my next question of what would carbon look like on a black car so how about the term "ricer".

See I always heard it as reference to any performance tuned import (along with sewing machines, hamsters, etc) but from what I have been reading in other threads and posts it sounds like it refers more to all show-no go (or less concern with go than show) Is that the case?

That black HD is wild looking. I'll have to show that to the wife, I'll call it the after shot

Thanks guys.

The term Ricer these days gets thrown around way too much. Generally it was refering to cars with mods that made the car "look fast" but the car didnt have the power to back it up. Now anyone who isnt trying to be MaD TyGHT JDM is a ricer cause everyone should be on the JDM bandwagon.

Ed's car is the nicest EP ive seen next to the kingsmotorsports EP3 but then again that cars has every mugen part availalble, even the mugen liscence plate bolts.

Wow Ed, the car looks awesome. I can only hope to get mine that nice. I may just take you up on that offer of a ride, I'll try not to scream like a little girl too much.

Nice pics, very nice.

Okay so "ricer" is a pretty generic term, so what about JDM? The more I read the more I see that one used. Is it a brand name?

Thanks again guys and thanks Ed for the inspiring pics, got more? I can't get enough of that car. I was starting to wonder where all the black cars were at. Very nice.

JDM refers mostly to parts or from honda's in Asia or parts manufcatured there. Ed's car would be considered JDM because he used mostly mugen and Type R parts to modify it.

Hopefully you can make it out to a meet in the future and check out some the other rides tcc has.

Beauty car Matt, and thanks Chris for clearing that up. So I take it that JDM is held in higher regard than the alternative? It's starting to make sense now So who is teh trusted dealer of JDM parts in the area? Anyone I need to be extra nice to?

Okay so as a new comer who wants to upgrade performance on a stock car, what are my options? I'ver read a lot about ram air or cold air induction systems (they look cool too), and headers, exhausts or muffler upgrades. Is that something I should be looking into or will factory parts suffice for the time being allowing me to concentrate time and money on cosmetic mods?

I will definatly be out to check out some of these rides, I look forward to the spring more and more each day. I think this mild weather we've been having lately has sparked it earlier in me this year.

Thanks again guys,
Gord

It really depends on what route you want to take; Show or Go? Like, do you want all cosmetic changes first and then slowly move to performance parts? You could probably do a little bit of both, depending on the money situation.

I think that a lot of people are typically doing the performance route and forsaking the appearances... essentially creating a "Sleeper."

Since you'll be getting a SiR, your car in stock form will be plenty fast enough... well, up until you get that itch to see how much more you can wring out of that little engine.

Hehe, I have the itch already I should really be taking it a bit slow I guess.

I typically like to have both, she has to be pretty but she also has to be able to back that pretty up with some performance. You can't have one without the other in my book. I do like the sleeper look that a lot seem to be heading for, subtle. I think cosmetically I'd go with a close to stock look or sleeper style. Maybe some carbon and rims but not much more, then again I don't know about much more than that yet so... lol

I was more curious as to what starter mods I should be considering. I'd like to do the ram air thing, it looks good and upgrades performance from what I understand. Seems pretty easy to do also. I think when I do the exhaust I'll do the headers, and muffler at once - more of an investment at one time I guess tho.

Any recommendations as far as brand, style, etc for both cold air and exhaust/muffler. Keep in mind, my wife would hang me if her new car was bombing down the road sounding like a helicopter was landing nearby. I saw someone had a write up about a mugen knock off that had close to stock sounds, is that even an option or is loud a given?

Thanks,
Gord

For JDM parts there are so many people that if you **** one guy off you can just go to another. I can try and help you out with some of it but I personally dont do any importing.

For your first mods id look at like a short shifter with a shift **** and try and keep them small. IMO intake, header exhaust is a waste but then again you have a pretty nice engine to start so its more worth it then it would be for any of us with our series engines.

I would pm Ed and get his opinion as far as intake, header and exhaust. I believe he has a comptech icebox which looks like stock(no hassles from cops) and at the same time helps getting cool air into the car. Then he has a fujibitso or something exhaust thats not huge tipped and sounds very nice until u stomp on it and then u do notice it.

I usually say to people, get an alarm first and then get a small system installed. From there if your into looks and performance i would grab some lips if your not planning on putting on a bodykit etc. Then once you get the exterior up to your liking i would worry about power. Also another important thing to think about is upgrading you suspension with a nice shock/spring or shock/coilover setup.

Look around the net and read as much as you can so you will have a plan as to what you wanna do.
