i've had several sets of these that came on rims i bought used. they are by far the worse tire i've ever had and the first thing i did with them was toss them in the garbage. stay away at all cost.
tires i like (or the new equivallent since some of these names are many years old), yokohama avid H4 , yokohama parada spec 2 , hankook ventus something, falken azenis, pirelli P9000, michelin energy mx4, bridgestone potenza, bfgoodrich gforce t/a, continental contisport... and so on.

There's acutally a few different models of the Proxy 4.
I've never used them, but I was considering the T1R or the R888's. However, with my new ride, I was told I would eat a set of those tires a season. They have a really sticky/soft compound once heated. Thus, breaking down sooner rather than later.

If your car is a daily driver, falken azenis rt615's, T1R's, R888's will all wear out extremely fast, and are extremely expensive.
They should be used only as a competition tire. We use RA1's (soon to be R888 or V710's) on our MR2 in autocross and one set will barely get us through one season of 8 or 9 events.
Look at the falken ze912, or similar tire for a daily driver summer tire. Get something that will last.
I just picked up a set of Durun A2000 (some chinese brand)from torontojdm for $314 mounted and balanced ($62/tire, tax and pollution fee included). I'm actually very surprised by how much grip they have. They MORE grip in the dry and wet then the falken ze512's I was using previously, and they ride smoother as well.
I can't speak for the proxes 4's as i've never used them.

I had a set of these a few years ago. The noise level was really loud (although i hear they have gotten a little better in this department), the wet traction was not great, but they were real good for dry cornering. They lasted about 4 years so the treadware was pretty good. i upgraded to the T1R's and got the best in all areas, but they don't last as long
