Request for DIY: Rear Drum Replacement/Maintenance

Hey, I have never worked on drum brakes before, I have no idea what is inside. Does anyone have a DIY with pictures for replacement, maintenance, and inspection?

My brakes are pretty worn, even the fluid is quite low. Hand brake on the passenger side is not working.

I recomend finding a friend who has some experience to help you. Really if you do work on your car and feel confident in your ability to spin a wrench, then just try doing it. Just put the rear up and take both wheels off, get both drums off and then do them one side at a time. That way you hav e avisual reference of the way to put it back together if you get lost.

As for the parking brake not workin you'll need to look into it. If it's only one side that doesn't work then is the cable broken after the point where it seperates? Is it just loose or siezed? Basically without actually being there no one can tell you why yours doesn't work. They can only tell you why theirs failed on them, and maybe it's the same as your problem maybe not.

im actually going to do the discs and drums(replacing brake hardware). When I get to it, I'll try and do up a report, my first time doing it on my 91 hatch. Ill let you know when I do, but it might get delayed til this summer, cant get anyting done when school starts. Drilled rotors from ebay for my model around $45.

if your a virgin at doing drum brakes, i would definately recommend a friend to be there. When i first started it was pretty tough getting all the springs and anchors out and putting them back in and figuring out how they went, i could only imagine not having somebody there to guide me.

A DIY for this type of work is not the best route to go IMO.
