help with tire size please!

hey i was just wondering... I have some gsr blades i will be picking up... but what would be the best size tire? and what would be the best tire for daily driving + occasional track driving? any suggestions would be good!

I have only used yokahama avid low profiles in the past..

You want to keep the tires the same diameter as the factory tire size.

The GSR blades are 15", correct? In that case, the facory size is 195/55R15. (as it is for the 00 SiR 15" rims).

Picked up a set of durun a2000's from torontojdm for under $62 per tire (tax and pollution fee included!!!). I must say, so far they have performed beyond my expectaions. Much stickier then the falken ze512's I used to have, in the wet and dry.

There are lots of good tires out there, it all depends on how much you want to spend. Do some research and read reviews on lots of different tires and see what best suits your needs.

They only draw back I will mention is they don't have 195/55R15's, they only have 195/60R15. That is the size I bought and had to roll my fenders and cut away some of the inner fender liner so they wouldn't rub (car is lowered 2-2.5").

Yes, they are taller than stock, but my speedometer has always read faster then actual speed, so I didn't mind going up slightly in diameter.

If your car is not lowered, you should be fine though. Just spend some time and look around. See whats out there.

Are you using the tires for the track (aka not a straight line) or the drag strip?

If you are going for the track, get bigger wheels at least 16". Drag strip you can stick with the 195-55 without issues but I wouldn't go on such a narrow tire for a real track.

It is a myth that larger rims = better handling. Quite often the results are the opposite, depending on the application and the tires used.

Larger rims are heavier which means more unsprung weight. This hurts handling performance and can also result in slower acceleration.

Part of the reason larger rims give the impression that handling is improved is simply because there is less of a side wall on the tire and therefore less side-wall flex. The actual grip of the tire can still be crap. A good performance tire on a smaller rim will perform better than a larger rim with a performance tire when comparing on the same vehicle, due to the lighter weight of the smaller rims.

We use 15" rims tires with toyo RA1's on our race MR2 and there is minimal sidewall flex and gobbs of grip (but you also don't want zero sidewall flex...). A good performance/race tire will be built for just that, regardless of the side wall height. Look at a formula 1 tire...smaller light-weight rim with a big fat tire on it.

The reason you see large 18+" rims on touring cars etc., is partly due to their larger brakes required to slow down their heavier weight.
