Help Please!! My car has an aweful shake to it!

So I am not sure if this is where I should post this but....Please help!

I have a 2006 Civic Coupe SI with 95000km on it - I have nothing aftermarket on the car besides 18 inch Konig Rims and Nitto Neo Gen tires. Full Factory suspension still.

I took my car in 2 weeks ago for a noise in the rear passenger side and they told me I needed to machine all my rotor and replace my pads...Not a problem all done...at the Stealership too!

The problem is now the car is shaking in the body not the steering wheel...I took the car back and after a crap load of arguing with the dealership they balanced my tires and did an alignment, rotated my tires as well and....STILL SHAKING....

I am now getting frustrated I am not sure what is wrong and neither is Honda.

Anyone??

I had asked them to check the wheel bearings and the rotors to make sure they are not warped but they claim all is good.

When I rotated the tires I expected the shake to move from the back end to the front and the steering wheel to shake....and that did not happen at all...the body still shakes!!

PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!
Thx in advance for all the input.

you'd need to road test it to figure it out, not much can be said online.

Sorry but I thought I did said this above that the dealership had it and they did road test it several times after balancing the tires then again after rotating them....They have not a clue as to shat is wrong with my car....

If a dealership cannot diagnose a problem then I am really screwed! LOL

And all tires were balanced today and an alignment done and although the tires were out and the alignment was out now that it is repaired it is still shaking in the seat and body.

Try a different dealer maybe or a dedicated suspension shop. They usually do free estimates. Are the tires worn unevenly possibly? That could cause some movement of the car. At what speed does the car shake?

Also, when I had my 06 Si, the motor mounts and front strut mounts both needed to be replaced.

Do you have centering rings on those 18s? If so, just try a different dealership/shop.

At what speed do you experience the shake in the body?
40km/h? 60km/h? 100km/h?
Only at highway speeds or also at city speeds?

so the shake starts about 10km/hr and there is not a speed it stops at that I have reached yet! So it shakes at all times. I think 2 of my tires have feathered a little bit but I really did not think that would make it shake I thought that would cause more of a humming noise. And as for the centering rings, no I dont have them on but the stealership said it might make a small difference....I have not had them on since I installed the rims this summer and then all of a sudden I service my brakes and now it shakes....

I am thinking maybe I should swap on my snow tires and see if maybe it is the rubber.

I again must say I really appreciate all the input!!
Thx

How many km's have you put on those tires? What is your driving style (be honest)?

Just because one dealership couldn't diagnose the problem doesn't mean nobody else can. I've known/heard of a few dealerships with some incompetent mechanics...

I'm suprised they couldn't diagnose it to be honest...

Without driving the car, we can only make suggestions for you.

My thoughts/experience points to feathered/cupped tires or warpped brake rotors. Since you said they had just machined the rotors, I doubt that is the problem.

Try and post a pic of your tires, all 4. If they look fine, you should try another dealership, or mechanic.

I have maybe put 20,000 km on the tires since May when they were installed....

I dont drive the car "crazy" but I do drive it like I own it within reason, what is the point of buying the SI if you are not going to use the additional horsepower lol...I am a little more mature in age (mid 30's) but I really take care of the car too...I do everything to avoid big bumps and pot holes as much as anyone with nice rims on their car.

I did say that 2 of the tires seem to be feather but I did not have a problem with them until the brakes were done....Like instantly....Brakes services and the car now vibrates....

Like I said earlier I will try my snows and see if it is my tires per say.

My thought was maybe a warpped rotor or wheel bearing....Honda thinks it is the tires but when I rotated the feathered tires to the front and the rear is still where the vibration is??

Try the snow tires and see what happens. Where do you live? I could help you out tomorrow if you like and check your rotors for run out and check the thickness of them. That way you will know for sure that they are in spec. Let me know.

Seanv98 Thanks for the Offer...I work all day in the City and live an hour north of Toronto....And have a part time job too that I work tomorrow night.

The snows wont be going on now till the weekend to see if that is the problem.

Is there a way to test the rotors for correct depth? or Warpping? and if so why would Honda not do that?

I too live an hour north of the city (just north of markham). Where abouts are you? Newmarket, Markham? I could take a look some time...

It's not that 'honda' would not have checked these things...it's that 'that mechanic' might not have checked these things...

^^ I agree. There is a maximum run-out and a minimum thickness for rotors. They are supposed to check the runout with an indicator and properly measure the rotors with a caliper or a micrometer. They may not have done that and just assumed they could be reused.

I have a feeling it's the centering of the rims. When you initially had the new rims installed they may have centred the rims onto the hub. Now after the dealership has taken off those rims, there's a good chance they just slapped on the rims without paying attention to centering. That is also a difference that can be observed rather than focusing on the brake service.

I have a very strong feeling about the centering of the rims because you said the shake is even noticed at 10km/h.

Ahh...very good point. Didn't even think of that.

Also, OP, do your rims have 2 different sets of bolt patterns?

The race rims we use on our MR2 have this and even though they are 2 different bolt patterns we can infact bolt them on with the wrong set of wholes, something we're always are careful of when putting them on.
