click/pop noise driver front ????? help
Car makes a dull "clicking" sound similar to a light thud coming from
the front drivers side.
*Car makes the sound when going straight
*Sound disappears when making a left turn but returns when wheel
is straightened
*When car is on Jack stands (not under load) and engaged in gear
there is no sound
*Sound varies directly with wheel rotation, every rotation brings
a sound
*When car is shut off and costing in neutral the sound is still
present
*Sound does not disappear when break is applied
*Sound does not vary with engine RPM's, i.e. costing with engine
off the sound persists
*sound does not disappear when cluth depressed either
Any thought?
Thanks in advance!

car up. then check for play at the wheel.
hands at 3 and 9, play = tie rod, you need to check to be sure if it's inner or outer. (this is prolly not your problem)
hands at 2 and 7, play = wheel bearing, if it's here and everywhere it the bearing. double check the bearing by grabbing around two coils on the spring and squeezing while spinning the tire as fast as you can by hand, if you feel vibration, you've confirmed it.
hands at 12 and 6, play = ball joint, check to see if it's the upper or lower. you need a pry bar and to "lift" the knuckle up off the lower, if it shows play then it's the lower, the upper you should see any play by grabbing the tire at the top and pulling in and out. you also need to make sure any play found here isn't the control arm bushings

Either a lower balljoint or an axle gavin.
There are a few other possibilities, but from what you are saying, it sounds like either a bj or axle. I can't recall if your axle boots are ripped or not, but if they are, that's probably what the problem is.
To test the lower balljoint, jack the car up high enough so that the wheel is up about 3-5" above the ground. Put a pry bar or crow bar btw the ground and wheel, and try and pry the wheel up. This will test the lower balljoint.

Hey, I had the exact same problem with my 240sx. Check your springs. One of my springs was jammed and popped in and out of place. Take a squat beside your wheel, and have a friend turn the wheel all the way both ways and take a look. I have a feeling it's the spring not sitting right. Exact same symptoms as my 240. I really hope this helps!
