Adjusting parking brake - 2001
Hi,
Anyone know how to adjust parking brake lever on a 2001 Civic / EL? Just got the car couple days ago and noticed that I have to pull up on the lever a lot - feel very little tension until its almost vertical.
Help is much appreciated!
Thanks!

remove the center console around the ebrake handle. You will then see to cables coming from the back and one going to the ebrake handle, between the two cables there will be a nut, tighten that nut down and your ebrake will get stiffer. If my memory serves be right, it should be no more than 8 clicks to very tight position. Dont overdo it since you could potentially create too much drag on the brakes with handle down.

Any instructions on how to remove the center console?

If i recall correctly, 7th gen civics had pressure fitted ebrake consoles. So, carefully look around for any screws, if i am correct you should be able to fit something thin between shifter console and ebrake console and pry up. The cover will pop off.

I think your car had either a console that had a door that slides back to open or you have the arm rest style one that flips up, there could be screws under the rubber mat in the bottom. If it has an ashtray on the back you may need to remove it too, there could be screws, I don't thing so but better to look then to break.

Better yet, download a full service manual online. That will give you all proceedures of doing any diy you could think of on your car.
