16" rims making noise
 

I have a set of 16" rims with tires that I put on the other day on a 09 honda EX .. i can't seem to figure out what the problem is .. that when the car starts to slow down it makes a "woofing"/whoozing sounds... usually i only hear it at low speed...it doesnt seem to be hitting on anything, the rims are balanced as well, there's hubcentric rings on all 4 tires...

this only happens when i have the rims on ... when i slapped my winter tires on.. i dont hear that whoozing/woofing sound ..

any ideas?

it could be your wheels bearings...but have a mechanic check it out so you'll know for sure what the problem is.

09 or a 99? could be noisy tires (what kinda tires are on there?) or it could be wheel bearings, but wheel bearings you should hear at higher speed.

i meant 99 ... if its the wheels bearings.. how come that doesnt happen when my winter tires are on ...

tires are ventus .. 205/45R16

stiffer sidewall *could transmit wheelbearing noise more to the interior, but I wouldn't bet on the wheelbearings being bad. but in any case, it's an easy check... jack up car, wheels off, get the dial indicator out and verify wheelbearing play against helm's factory specs.

i would bet it's the tires being noisy, swap with a buddy and see if the tires make the same noise on his car. or have someone drive the car and you stand outside as they pass and see if the noise is coming from the tires or the car itself. try it on concrete and different types of pavement, see if the pitch of the noise changes.

I'm have the exact same problem! I recently slapped on my SIR rims and I hear noise when I slow down but don't hear anything when I drive on the highway. I never heard that noise when I had my winters on. I thought maybe I need an alignment cuz my car pulls a bit to the left

Some tires are much noisier then others. If you look on a website like tirerack, they rate the noise and comfort levels of their tires. An all season touring tire will usually be quieter then a performance tire. Probably nothing wrong with the car or tires, you're just not used to the different sound the new tires make.

have you done any susp work or have you removed any susp components from the car? (tie rods or upper and lower control arms in the front, trailing arm or lower control arm in the rear?)

wider tires tend to track the road's crown and grooves a lot more than oem sized tires, when i first put 205s on my car back in '98 i thought the brand new car had broken in half :)

No I haven't done anything...I just swapped the wheels. I'll have my buddy check it out and see if anything's wrong
