ys1 gear question

long story short I have a 92 integ rs. pretty much bone stock. b18a1(i think) with a ys1 tranny. tires are 185 60 r 14 instead of the stock 195 60 r 14 but I don't think this should change what the tach and speedo read as the speedo is relative to rpm and not how fast the car is actually going. I bought the car from a ffriend who never drove it he just traded his car for 2 cars and I got one. he was told by the original owner it had gsr internals... I think is B.S but not why I bought it. I could see the bottom end being gsr possibly but since the head is non vtec I can't see any logic to putting in gsr parts there. motor runs mint and pulls hard. and the tranny shifts smooth like butter so I am willing to belive it's been rebuilt and I've noticed that it should be runing about 3,000 - 3,200 rpm at 120k/h from what I've read but it's turning about 3,600 and no clucth slipping on this car it grabs so hard the clock button cover falls down if shift hard to second. just wondering if maybe the tranny got gsr internals is what he meant?

Because you're running a smaller tire size the engine has to work harder to keep you at the same speed. I'm runnin smaller tires for winter and i'm noticing the same thing, my engine is at higher rpms at the same speed.

the actual sped your travelling would be different but the speedo shouldn't read a lower sped at a higher rpm. the speedo gets it's reading from the tranny not the tire. the engine speed is 3700 rpm the 5th gear ratio to final drive ratio is the same reagdless of tires. the drive shaft isn't turning faster the outer diameter of the tire is. I could put whell from a monster truck on and it should still read 120 @ 3700 despite the real speed would be much higher than 120. the only way to get a different rpm at the same speedo reading would be to change the gears in the tranny
