Any good place`s to buy 4 new tires that are 215 40r 18`s? Any tires that you would recommend that are under 1000.00 taxes and install in? Would it make a difference to scale them back to 17`s?

I dont think you can put a 17 inch tire in a rim designed for 18 inch

I have yokohoma's and they are pretty good , no problems so far. You can go more expensive and get michelin's

I buy my tires from tires 23 , they are sponsors here and they have really good prices and fast service. Give them a call. They are in mississauga

I meant if i should just buy a 17' rim and tire, or downsize completely from a 18. I did try tire 23 but havent received a response in over 4days.

This may sound crazy now days but maybe call them up? They were usually the best price I could find for tires when I lived in T.O.

I personally don't like 18s on a civic. I would prefer 16s

17 are not bad but for my taste they are a little too big for a little car. I wouldn't go more than two size up. So if you car came with 14s , 16 should be good.

go with some 15's or 16's. i would give optionjdm a call depending on what tires your looking for. i got my azenis 615k's there for 570 cash.. tires23 wanted 660-670 after tax.

optionjdm doesn't do that anymore. that was a special price that no longer in effect.

im new to the tire shopping, but please correct me if im wrong. Does 4 brand new faulken z12 215 40r 18 1s between 1000.00 - 1300.00 seam high in price? I have called around 10 places. I have been looking for 4 rim and tire package at 17`s for under 1000.00 bux but having trouble over in london doing so. I have looked on kijiji for the past few weeks morning and night from london all the way to toronto hoping to find a nice set of 17`s rims and tire but nothing seems to catch my eye.

Falken Zeix ZE-912s can be had for pretty cheap, and I personally run these tires, so they should be pretty good. The Yokohama AVID ENVigor would be a good second option too. Both if you call up Tires23, should probably be around $700 to $800 installed tax in at most.

You're buying 18s, so be prepared to go $900+ for anything remotely 'Performance'. If you run 15s there are more options in terms of a lower cost for higher performance tire, but you have to factor in the purchase of wheels to mount them on and the possible delay in selling your 18s (I assume). The market is never really hot for 4x100 18" wheels.

As for actual brands and models of tire, you have to first consider:

- How you drive
- How much you drive
- Will the tires see track use
- If Yes, then what kind of track use (Drag, Lapping, etc.)
- How important fuel economy is to you
- How long you want the tires to last
- Will they be seeing use through the colder parts of the year?

If you drive a lot, and don't have the cheddar to be replacing tires all the time, then you'll need to go with a harder, less aggressive compound and softer sidewall. This will increase the longevity of the tire and be less abuse on your bushings, bearings, joints and suspension. A sporty example may be the Falken ze912 or something from Bridgestone's Fuzion range.

If you like some performance, but don't mind replacing tires every summer, I've had excellent road experience with the Yokohama AVS-ES100. I'm not sure if they make them anymore, but they're fantastic road tires and I've used them on the track car during wet sessions with great success. They are soft and if mounted on an 18" rim will probably not last you more than 1 to 1.5 seasons.

Stepping up the performance, the Falken 615K is probably the cheapest, toughest, dual use (street/track) tire on the market. It holds up pretty well to cold temperatures and has decent resistance to hydroplaning. I've run these tires many times on my road cars that see dual track/road use. In the same family but for more price you have the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 Star Spec, Yokohama ADVAN Neova, Bridgestone RE11 (I run on my Z), Toyo RA-1 (If you can find some), and Toyo R888.

But there's a sleeper tire out there, the book isn't out on yet, the Kumho Ecsta XS is gripper than the 615K, and cheaper, but they hate the cold in my experience (noticeable loss of grip and inability to hold heat), and don't handle the wet well. If it's a summer-only tire, you may want to give a look.


As for tire and wheel size, keep in mind that metal weighs more than rubber, so a larger wheel has a larger rotational inertia, ie. it's harder to turn (less acceleration) and harder to stop (compromised braking) I would suggest nothing larger than 15s for a civic without a substantial brake and power upgrade and nothing wider than a 205-series with the price of fuel as it is.

I hope that's helpful, if you get lost just call a few shops and ask around, but be wary, they're all trying to sell you something!

I'm going to have to disagree with the Azenis though. It certainly is a great tire, but its novelty wears off very fast when you compare it to the AD08 or Z1 Star Spec (not to be confused with the DZ101). Having personal experience with the Z1 Star Spec on track cars and street driven cars (seperately), I can say that the Star Specs stay consistently strong throughout their treadlife, whereas the Azenis did not. This is on varying tire sizes on 15-18" rim and tire setups on different chassis.

Another tire worth checking out if you're just street driving the car is the Nitto Neogen VR. I'm picking up a set next week to put my Azenis aside for track days. Next year I may try out some R comps.
