How to figure out your engine id?

How do I figure out what series of engine is in my civic? Is it buried in the VIN somewhere or can it be found somewhere on the engine itself? Looking to id engine in a 98 SI and a 2001 EX both are coupes.

Thanks

Its stamped on the engine block, to the left of the exhaust manifold, near the split to the transmission. You should see a flat area where it is stamped. It may need to be wiped off.

It's going to be a D16XX.
