Exclamation Getting a B18C5 into a '93 del Sol -- is this a reasonable deal?

Hi,

I've got a 93 del Sol that my timing belt snapped on... so now I'm looking at doing a swap to a B18C5 -- I had a B16 (I think -- I'm TOTAL noob) -- I know it was a 1.6 DOHC Japanese import (my friend Suleman did the swap)

So for $3,660 **CASH** (which is a big helper here in Toronto) I am getting:

Complete engine block with head Intake and Exhaust Manifold,
Flywheel AT/MT, Crankshaft Pulley
Injectors, Valve cover, Spark plug wires, ECU, wiring harness

**I think that is what I get... **

The "deal" is that he will use parts from my old engine (B16), keep the computer, engine, etc... and I will drive out with a B18C5 -- not getting the transmission, he was clear on that. I will basically have my car towed in, and drive it out 2 days later with a B18C... he told me he'll take me for a test drive and sounds like he's being open. He told me come in first, look over the paper work and if I like it then I can go ahead with the deal.

1) Is this a good / reasonable deal?
2) Should I get some type of compression test papers with it... ? If I do, should I get my own anyway?
3) Anyone know about / have comments on www.torontoJDM.com -- they are providing the engine and making the connection for the swap.
4) Please comment on anything extra you can think I might need to know/ask... I'm just starting to learn this stuff so BASIC stuff should also be included... as if I was your MOM or something... LOL.

Thanks,
Merkley

PS. Is there a car club in Oshawa / Whibty that a noob like me could join? I'm not sure what for other than to learn about cars, how to take care of mine; what upgrades do what, etc... starting to make this an official hobby after I drop the $3660...

so for $3600 you get just a b18c5 engine installed and he keeps all your old stuff?

IMO thats not a deal at all....for $3500-4000 you could pick up a complete b18c5 swap and sell your b16 stuff for $1500-2000

Unhappy Thanks for the advice... any contacts

Yes, he's planning on using my B16 transmission, he said that "B-series" all fit together without issue.
----------------------

Thanks for the feedbacks... I'm sooo glad I asked. I was getting all excited for this to happen on Tuesday, but if I'm getting pwn'd then I'll wait..

So, here's my new questions...

1) Can anyone help me find a 'good deal'? I'm looking for around the 3-4 mark for "everything", including "everything" I need, I don't want to be in a situation where I still will need parts, suspension, etc.

2) Where can I go to get the whole thing done for 3-4 thousand?

3) How can (where?) I sell my B16 engine... (remember I blew the timing belt and there is damage to the valves; confirmed by scopes and a leak test)

4) Anyone know a good contact for towing (from Oshawa to where the shop is in answer #1)??

Thanks!
Merkley

PS - If anyone wants to "help" and give me some one-on-one chat time, I'll certainly take you up on that... phone call, meet you at a shop, etc... I'm in need of some "car friends" that actually know what they are talking about... last time I listened to someone that "thought" they knew it cost me this little incident here...

ok, i just thought you werent getting ANY tranny for your money and he was KEEPING yours as well as your drive shafts haha.

3-4K on a Type R motor, prolly wont happen. you're most likely going to be looking at 4-5K and then whatever your mechanic or the shop charges you for swapping the motor. but you could also sell your b16, yes it might have some things wrong with it, so just sell it for 1000$. yours will just need some work, and alot of people are into building b series motors, like me for example, i took a stock b16a2 and built the **** out of it and its STILL not done. so theres always people looking for project motors or cars.

Funny my buddy just paid $3500 for a type-r engine and tranny with lsd
He is definetly trying to take you for sure. Shop around or sell off your old engine parts and make some cash out of it.

WHERE can I get full type-R swap, including tranny with LSD for 3500?

Can anyone PLEASE give me name/contact/website?

Also same for selling my engine for parts...

I would really appreciate someone taking a few minutes to talk on the phone, PM me with your number if you don't mind... knowing "your being ripped off" is good, but I need to know where to go and /or how to make it so that I am not...

Thanks
Merkley

Talking B18C5 complete for 3900 +GST

Looks like I've found full B18C5 for $3900 +GST (and shipping).

It comes with "everything" (man I hate that word when I don't really understand the scope). Dude said it has axels, shift linkage, LSD, ECU and everything else...

So other than Teknotik does anyone have any knowledge of where to get this swapped? I live in Oshawa... but figure there is not much in the way of swappers out this way...(?)

Man, I'm getting excited... I originally thought I had a B16A in there; but it turns out I have a D15B -- so I'll be going from ~127 to ~195... 68 HP! I thought my car was 'pretty good' before... I can't imagine how it's going to pull with over 50% more HP...

BTW, just wanted to say I really appreciate everyone's help and feedback here!

Yep. I went by the shop and saw my engine and the facilities there. I was impressed with their inventory alone. They're certainly not a 'middle man' and they answered (and showed) me questions about transmissions, etc. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I was quite pleased to meet them and see how many engines/transmissions/parts/etc they carry... a lot of $$$ wrapped up in inventory for sure.

I brought my wife by when I was making the first part of the payment and she was even looking at some of their seats.... hahaha, who knows, maybe for Christmas or something I'll get a few parts! I don't really want to modify the body too much tho, I've gotten out more than one ticket in my time and figure I wouldn't be able to if I did a body kit, etc. (oh, and the fact that I don't have the money to do it!! haha)

Thanks all, I'm looking forward to getting my car back and posting up some pictures and the results!! Hopefully it's not going to rain this weekend!!!
