Dome Light Issue.

Hey guys, new issue. haha.

Alright, so I was working on my floor lighting, and I assumed that I could of hooked it up along with the dome light wiring. Didn't work out so well cause it was draining too much power. After a couple fuse replaces, I just canned the idea of the floor lighting.

Issue now is that the switches at the top of the domelight, when it's set to off, it's off completely (that's fine) when it's on the middle setting, the only come on when doors are open, it's permanently on, even then the doors are closed fully. The "on" state doesn't matter that's still acting the same.

I'm thinking in my feeble attempts in trying to hook up the floor lighting, i must of shocked a relay, possibly killing one of the door triggers, only problem is that I'm not sure where that relay is located. I've checked the service manual, and I'm still checking, but any help would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.
Matt.

Update: Alright, so doing some more troubleshooting, I've found out that it's not the door triggers, if it was the remote wouldn't lock all the doors, i've tested it by keeping each door open and trying to lock the car with the remote and it wouldnt give. So from that I know all the door triggers are behaving properly.

Problem is when the domelight is set to the "door" mode (the middle position on the switch) and all the doors are closed and i hit the lock button on the remote, the dome light stays on. It's a Honda Civic, 2000, my car didn't come with the moonroof, or sunroof, just the basic dome light for the roof.

Another Update: I've found out from my sister that both my reverse lights are out. Not sure if it has something to do with the dome light, but I'll check it out on the fuse panel. Keep you all posted

Did you take the asembly apart? The switch that slides could be installed incorrectly. Its pain to put it together. So it could be contacting a constant power feed while its in middle position.

I have a backup light fixture just for testing purposes and it's doing the same thing. I was able to get my reverse lights going again, just a simple fuse that blew.

Checking the wires of the door triggers today, I believe it goes back to the Running Light Relay so I'm going to look more into that.

Went over to the wreckers today found a 92 civic, pulled out the inter lock control relay and the running light relay, and try and see is that's any fix to the situation.

no luck on those two parts, but the good news is that I was able to trace there both the domelight wires go to. one goes to the fuse box for power, and the other goes to a box that's located in the kickpanel. I might be seeing the end of this very soon!

I thought the dome when switched to 'door' was set as a ground. So maybe you're grounded out somewhere.
Maybe test a normal dome light voltage, and compare to your 'door' light voltage.

I know mine breaks at times. Sometimes it stays on, but very dime, sometimes it shuts off. I'm pretty sure it's a grounding thing. Good Luck!

All things, flow into here.. This is the end!

Well I checked the grounding, turned out that it was the control unit (that clear box I mentioned before that’s located in the drivers side kickpanel) Checked the board and sure enough the smell from the burnt chip was belonging to……the dome light… My search, is over.

Thanks everyone.
