93 hatch speedometer works than stops
#2
i have the same problem its the speed sensor in the tranny or something like that i need to change when it heats up it starts to slip off the gear or something and it only does it for me hen it gets hot i think its costs like 150 for itand install i have a 93 coupe

check the coupler on the harness end that connects to the speed sensor. the same thing happened to me and it ended up being that a couple of the prongs in the coupler had corroded and broke off and were intermittantly making connection. i just got a used plug from my "parts civic", but you could surely get it from a wrecker.

Actually on my 95 coupe, it would work most of the time, but then die, and the KMs wouldnt go up either. and then when i changed my cluster it was fine. and on my 93 hatch the same problem and i just changed the speedo head. never once was it a speed sensor for me. i would say if you have a spare cluster of a cluster you can borrow, try that first. will be less expensive.

without actually having the car infront of me I can't say it's this or it's that but there are erally only three things it could be
1. the VSS. find it a scrap yard that lets you save by pulling it yourself. it's easy there is one connector and one bolt. cookstown only charged me $5 for one. For me it was a waste tho cuz as it turns out, that was not the problem.
2. the cluster. The head gets corroded inside the cluster and first it seems to just not work right like it's lazy or weak. then it'll eventually start acting like it's possesed. I've got a pic of mine reading about where 300 km/h would be and I was parked at a timmies. good excuse to put in a SI or SIR cluster.
3. the ECU. it could be your ecu is fried. I didn't have this problem but I've heard about it plenty of times.
you should check to make sure your battery is good and strong. most automotive courses even in highschool levels teach you when dealing with electrical check the battery first. motomaster crap might even have good voltage and still be the source of the head ache.
