Different d -series transmissions?

I was just wondering if i could use a different d series transmission on my car asides from the one that i have . I need to do a swap and the price for a new 2002 civic d1.7 manual trany is 500 from most jap . auto parts places. I kinda was hoping to get one a bit cheaper!

Yes. All d-series tranny's can be swapped between each other. $500 for just a tranny seems a lot, esp. For a d series. Might as a well get a complete swap for 100$ more.

I'm not a gear-head, but I think that you won't need to buy new axles. I think you can use your old ones and they will mount up.

I'm pretty sure D17 tranny's are hydraulic....although any D series transmission will fit your car, make sure that if your current tranny is cable, you replace it with another cable tranny (and likewise for hydraulic). Therefore, you need to get another hydraulic transmission D15B8, D15Z1, D15B7, D16Z6, D16Y5, D16Y7, D16Y8

Not what I ment by cable operated. The shifter uses cables to select different gears rather than solid shifter linkage like the d16/d15. May be wrong though, don't quote me on that.

alright I'm not a honda genius but here's 3 trans swaps and present Auto to Man swap info.

you can use cable and hydro in any car just its alot of work changing the entire system (pedal assembly and in hydro instance you need to run a line, get it?)

If going from one body type to anouther the mounts don't line up. example EF to EG. Also the OBD type for sensor types.

The easiest is to get the same trans as you have, if not from the same yr.

But a D motor will bolt up to any D trans.

Oh and from my experience all the shafts are alike.

as i stated in the first reply, i believe...means im not 100% sure...the d17 7th gen transmissions use cables to shift gears instead of the rod assembly like other d15/d16/b series...
Rob, i may be looking into your custom engine building skills, lmk when you are available

The d17 on the 01-05 em2 civic's are cable tranny (cable linkage) there's no hole in the center console floor...
So the standard 92-00 D-series type linkage rod won't work. To use it you would need to make a hole on the floor\custom fab the shifter mounting.
