95 civic shift cable stuck, trans stuck in first

Hello, I have a 95 civic coupe 1.6 v-tec automatic. MY BABY! It was stolen from my driveway (somebodys got *****) 4 months ago, got it back a few days ago, had been sitting for over a month (covered in dust) with about 2500 additional miles on it. They stole my radio and air cleaner assembly, no biggie. Got a new battery and replaced the air intake. Engine runs fine and tranny was perfect for two days.
Tranny was a little slow going into reverse, changed the fluid. On an errand it didnt go into reverse. The lever moved well, from P to 1, just wouldnt engage in reverse. Drove the car home (about 5 miles) in D. Shifted perfectly. Never any slipping, hesitating or over revving. When I got the car home and put it into P to check it the lever would only move from P to N with no shifting in the tranny. Actually the car is in 1st gear at all times. The lever moved from P to about N and stopped like the cable couldnt pull whatever it was attached to. Vehicle starts fine in P but is actually in 1st. Drives well in 1st, no noises at all but the lever will not budge past N and the tranny will not shift out of first.
I am at a loss. I removed the shift lever cover and nothing is obstructing it. I changed the fluid (only use honda fluid from the dealer). Even removed the solenoid plate from the top to check if the screens were plugged, they werent but I cleaned it anyway. Still the same problem. God knows what the bastards did to her.
Any ideas? It seemed weird that it went from working perfectly to completely stuck in a few miles. Shift cable seems jammed and tranny stuck in first.
Thanks in advance. This car is an absolute gem and Id hate to see her go.

have you tried shifting the trans by hand at the transmission or just by the cable?

^ that
The cable could be shearing inside the sleeve.
