VW's are really hit and miss with reliability.. i don't know why some or bullet proof and others are brutal

yea thats so true, i always had a fetish for the golf GTi's VR6 GLX's and such, the sound of that engine just gave me shivvers, but i have to say, i always backed away, one because they are outragously overpriced for what they are, and second in order to get a decent fast golf i'd have to buy the 1.8 turbo gti or the VR6 in which case a person then might as just buy the top of the line golf. They don't seem to have anyother options like other compacts with acending models in performance. they have the base golfs which are 90hp.lol then the GTI's with the gay 115hp then the V6 Gti's which gets really expensive.

but i guess if they keep making those engine sound so sexy, i'll end up screwing myself and buying one when i could afford one.lol oh and don't be scared of the Vdub exhaust note, they sound powerful but are slow, same like how Honda has the lack of torque issue, vdubs have the hp issue.

My 1.6 Twin Cam 1994 sentra stayed toe to toe or so with a 2000 type Vr6 just with an intake on mine, and his being stock. i had 115hp.lol but then my car is light as F#$%.

eveycars has its thing, Vw has the sexy erotic engine/exhaust sounds, Honda has the ear throbing Vtec, Nissan has the ugly looks but big ***** out engines from the smallest to the biggest, Subaru's have the Boxer engine, and so on.

honestly, its not fast to me my (B13 sentra), i might feel that because i drive it everyday, but you have to remember, the VR6 jetta i raced is much havier then my tin can, and it was stock, im sure if the vdub had mods he would have smoked my ***.

come to think of it i raced a silver same 2001 gen vr6 on major mack, and i launched from second after being iffy to run, then the silver dub just rams it on first, and leaps 1 car on my right, he was trying to get ahead of me because it was becoming one lane, keeping that in mind i raced him till 3rd gear then let off, and we were pretty close to each other, my front bumper was about half car from his rear end, then i slowed let him in.

Later, he tried to gun it at 80kmh, but that was wrong of him, my car is pretty much dead below 60kmh, thats probably due to lack of mods, but 80 plus the car just keeps pulling like a horny turd. So i hear his engine lower gear and launch, so i do the same, we hit 140 and im right on his rear when the road curves hard and his fronts slide for a second, i back off, and let him know to stop, and that he "sucks at driving"lol.

I rolled down my window at the light and he just looks at me like he's the ****, so i look back and was about to tell him you can't be on the throttle hard gaining speed when your on a 1km mountain curve, but then i was like thums up and left.

I love vw's. Right now i got a 03 Jetta 1.8T with a Garret GT28rs turbo in it as a daily driver. Quite the sleeper actually. Had it dynoed recently. It put down 296whp and 306wtq. at around 21psi with a Side mount intercooler. Getting water/meth injection put in in about 1 week or two. I agree that the 1.8L and 2.slow 8valve are really slow but once you step up to the 1.8T and the new 2.0T then its a whole new ball game.

i had a golf and a jetta. i blew the oil plug in the golf...it was aturbodiesel (superslow). Blew the tranny on the jetta. both cars had self engaging horns....it was pretty ghetto. they're just bad cars.

had this old 90 Jetta.

Ran great. till my mom drove it for a week one time and ****ed up the tranny somehow.

After that I just sold it. Still, I have respect for VW

lol maybe it was your "granny" shifting Im running 300whp for a whole year and its still on stock clutch. Holding the power, i don't expect it to hold much longer but im riding it out till it gives. I also plan on putting in a 3071r turbo in which case i will be just over the 400whp mark. Can't wait.

VW always had a great durable body...

...Though unfortunately the electrical was rubbish

Say, 15 years ago, if Honda used VW body, it would had lasted forever

..Sorry...IMO

Ice driven MK2 vr/ MK3 vr and MK4 2.slow. Love the vr's but my civic towed both of those vr's so...
And yeah cel is just the way of a vw oweners life. Lol
I always wanted a MK3 vr6 and still do but I know if I get 1 its gonna be a constant headache.
Oh and the sound of a vr is amazing even with stock exhaust.

you fail for not knowing better that VW makes **** automatic transmissions. The only auto tranny i would ever get with a VW is the new DSG tranny. That thing is great.

how bad could a stock 1.8T or a VR6 be on gas? My Caliber SRT4 gets around 350-400k's to a tank ($40-$50 94 octane) to me thats bad. I was thinking of getting a Jetta but if the gas mileage sucks then its a no go.

well im "Big Turbo" (not really big, only have a GT28rs) with the matching unitronics 630cc file on my 1.8T and i get around 600km or so if i take it easy. Not bad for a car that just dynoed at 296whp. Most stock 1.8T's do around the same. For the new 2.0t i can't say as im not too familiar with that engine as of yet. As for the VR6, it will probably be less seeing as its a 6 cylinder car. I would not get a VR6 unless all you care about is the sound of your engine. They sound great with an aftermarket exhaust but don't really pack a punch unless your planning on turbo in the future, good luck.

I was a VW lover for the longest time. I had an 85 Golf, 2 89 Jetta's (both coupes), an 84 Jetta GLI and finally a 91 Passat. The Golfs and Jettas were great cars. They ran perfect and I never had a major problem with any of them. The Passat on the otherhand was nothing but problems and I started to hate VWs after that.

Now, the new MKVI GTI looks awesome and is a contender for my next car.
