Nice car to start with learning about the Si (it's called an SiR to us up here in Canada)
Really good platform to build off. Decent motor out of the box and lots of options for ways to improve it without breaking the bank.
To us Canuks the Si was basically your EX. Around the time the Si version of the civic came back to the US, we had never lost it but ours stayed the same basically as the EG with a SOHC VTEC 1.6L, this was when we started having almost as many things different with Hondas as the JDM and UKDM cars, just not as cool. Around 96 CDM and USDM actually started having real differences other then just day time running lights. We were introduced to the Acura EL as well, which was only sold here. In Japan it was called the Honda Domani or also as an Isuzu. This sedan also had the same D16Y8 130hp 1.6L as our Si, this was to fill the gap because our Ex trim Civics didn't come with VTEC, they had the Y7 non VTEC version.
You may find this to be a good read if you're looking to learn a bit more about the history of the Si trim
