P0141 and o2 question

hey guys,

so recently I got a CEL light and my scanner showed a p0141. I went ahead and purchased the o2 sensor for the rear(NGK/NTK 24283). I went in for an oil change and asked the mechanic to swap it out for me while the car was getting it's oil changed. He didn't put it up on a lift as they were full, so he used a jack instead so I wasn't there to watch

I told him the code and said to replace the one that is sensor 2, in the cat. He went under the car after draining the oil and replaced it, showed me the old one..one of the wires had gone bad(was exposed and looked like it was almost melted through)...

anyway, so I went home to reset the codes with my scanner and the CEL came back on within a few seconds of starting the car...same code

I searched online for similar situations and checked my fuses as well(#4 10A under dash seems to be the most recommended to check). They were fine.

Now i'm thinking that the mechanic could have replaced the wrong one. Is this possible? i.e. are the o2 sensors interchangeable physically? When i searched online, the parts were different part numbers...

my car is running fine, so if he did replcae the wrong one, the new o2 sensor is still doing it's job as it didn't throw off another code along with the P0141...

I probably won't get a chance to go under my car until this saturday but just thought I'd ask here
