97 Civic - SRS light reset

Hi all,

I have a '97 Civic where I unplugged the yellow airbag plug by mistake (I was looking for the ABS plug..... long story...). This has now caused my SRS light to come on, and it won't go off. The 'typical' reset instructions I've seen don't work on this generation as my SRS light doesn't come on, go off, and come back on again. It just stays on as soon as I turn on the ignition.

So..... what's the proper method to reset this light? It's driving me nuts!

I've tried leaving the battery disconnected overnight but it didn't help.

Thanks!

Thanks for posting this but unfortunately those instructions don't work on my Civic as my SRS light doesn't go off and on at all. As soon as I turn the ignition, it just stays on all the time. Any other ideas? I can't be the only one with this problem...

1998civic, Yup, tried that one too, got nowhere..checked codes, and nothing, it's just on!
4 tries..one more shot at it tomorrow, and then I'm yanking any connector I can find associated with that, and emery clothing the connectors, and making sure the seats are Well grounded! Could be corrosion on the connector under the drivers seat?!?Losing it with this lite...dash been out for 2 days with this..

when you unplug the srs it stores a code in the srs brain so you would have to use a scan tool to erase the code from the srs brain

That being said, does anyone have a re-set scanner tool? I know mine is only on because I disconnected it by accident. It wasn't on before so there's nothing wrong with the system...

Just go buy obdii reader they are getting stupid cheap these days and you can use it on almost any car (some don't work on volvos but who drives those cars anyway) or go to parts source they might do it for free just ask them first

you need to be able to get into the srs unit a normal obdii reader wont do what you want.

http://www.otctools.com/products/abs_airbag_code_reader

this is a great little scanner better then the ones at part source. would cost you as much as a trip to the dealer
