Question how much does replacing front+rear ball joints cost?

hey guys need some help here...i went to canadian tire yesturday for an oil change and they told me i need tighten or replace my front and rear ball joints on my 96 civic hatchback, i don't think it really needs to be replace but just tighten, the question is how much does it usualy cost at a shop to replace the ball joints?

CT tried to charge me 500$ in total for replacing the front and rear ball joints plus alignment, i have a feeling its pretty much a rip off so i didn't do it

so can anyone recommend me a shop that can do it? and how much it usualy cost?

thanks alot in advance

you can't tighten a balljoint, if there is play in it, it MUST be replaced. balljoints are a very important component of your suspension... ever wonder how the wheels mount to the car, yet are able to move with the steering???? well it's BALL JOINTS!!! so if a ball joint fails, the suspension collapses and wheel falls off the car (gets pushed back, causing loss of control, causing damage to the fender area... and at highway speeds can intrude into the footwell area and break your legs).

as for price so you don't get ripped off.... it's $80 each lower ball joint, $20 to press it in, plus about 1.5 hours labour at about $75/hr.

also there is no rear ball joints. it's upper and lower. upper ball joints require a replacement upper control arm, costing about $130 each from NAPA, and requiring about 0.75 hours each to install.

plus alignment of course.
