cant shift into reverse

cant shift into reverse

standard tranny 1 to 5 shifting is fine but cant shift into reverse

(going into any gear and back into reverse doesnt help)
cant go into reverse at any time

any know what the problem can be?

Try shifting from 1st to reverse. That usually helps.

He said that doesn't work...

Yah I have that problem too, but shifting to 1sdt then reverse works. You said that doesnt work for you, so I'm stumped.

Hopefully someone knows!

even with the car off??
sounds like the reverse idler is shot..
they're spur gears and tougher to engage..

let off the clutch a little.......that works sometimes

I have the same issue ... (one day my tranny will be in a lake somewhere) what I do is pop it in first move a little forward (to line up the gears and then pop it into reverse and have a very very happy day ......

yeah i tried a few diferent little tricks
if you let out the clutch some and give a little gas while doing so you can kind of feel it touching but not enough

anyway its got me puzzled guess its upto the shop to figure it out

I've driven many things with manual tranny's...soem with shto trannies...try puttin it in first then lettin out the clutch so the car starts to move like 2-3 inches then take it outta gear quickly while it's still rockin and put it into reverse...your clucth might be fired...
