Help! turbo making wired noise when spooling!

I wanted to make my turbo and cast manifold integrated. so i decided to get them professionally welded together. The welder told me to separate the hot side of the turbo so he can do a good weld. So I opened the 6 bolts that were holding the hot side together and 5 mins later it was out.

now after the welder did his thing I snapped the bolts back exactly the way i opened them and tightened them as much as possible. Turbo is almost brand new and zero shaft play.

today i installed it back in the car and gave it a go. its acting wired, sounding wired and very jerking!

did i **** up my turbo by opening it or is this just a leak issue? should the gaskets be replaced? i do notice some smoke coming out from where the manifold meets the block but its not a lot. the car wasn't driven, all this was observed at around 3000-4000 rpm. everything sounds fine in neutral.

!! please help !!

First off... why did you want to weld the turbine housing to the manifold??? I would have strongly advised against this for numerous reasons...

Anyways, what's done is done.

What is the boost at?
Does it have an internal or external wastegate?
Are all the vacuum lines hooked up properly?
All the charge pipes and clamps done up properly?
What kind of sound is it making?

I was having leak issued, and the studs kept stripping out so i got them welded.
it has a external wastegate, vacuum lines are good i double checked, clamps are tight, and its set for 10psi boost but i didnt even let it spool till any boost was made.

its jerky and makes a farting sound. do the turbo seals go bad if you open the housing?

no, the seals are fine if you take the housing apart, i've done this several times without any adverse effects.

I've never seen or heard of anybody welding the turbo to the manifold before, usually people will replace the gaskets and/or mill the flanges flat (if they're warped) to solve any leaking issues.

Wait WHAT?! You got your turbine housing welded to the manifold? Wow...

Anyways, what kind of noise exactly does it make. Did you actually drive it? Or just revved in neutral? Does it hit 10lbs and stay there?

I work for an R&D company which specializes in turbo exhaust manifolds and housings. I just happen to be working on a Fiat turbo which comes with an integrated turbo housing with exhaust manifold for 2011 models. So being an innovative mind and having all the resources available to me for free, i decided to implement that idea for myself.

so it turns out it was a bad gasket and i was loosing boost and thats why it was making a farting sound, gasket replaced and everything is A-Okay !!

Every OEM turbo car in the near future will be coming with integrated turbo housing/ exhaust manifold. You can control the air flow better and design it exactly right so the air hits the turbine in the most effective way. food for talk

It may make sense for an oem application. But in the world of the aftermarket and custom builds, many components of your build can and should remain interchangeable (removable) for various reasons.
