ecu/engine mngmnt for turbo single cam OBD2

buying an e-bay turbo kit.. problem is it does not come with any engine management or piggy back system or anything...what do i have to do or get done or buy to make this kit work? its going in a 2000 civic dx..non vtec..Do i have to get an OBD 1 p28? can i use my stock ecu and get it reflashed to run the turbo kit? Im not planning on anything crazy here..just want some boost for daily driving..wont ever see track time..if i have to reflash any sugesstions as to where to get it done and roughly how much does it cost? thanks for help in advance

Marlo...shush! lol

If you are going to buy an ebay kit, might aswell get that over the fpm kit. Cheaper in reality and same damn quality. If i was you, I would change the charge piping couplers and some better clamps just to make sure the pipes dont blow off everytime you hit boost.

Pay close attention to wastegate and blow off since they tend to fail right out of the box. Also, oil lines tend to leak, so make sure once it starts you have no leaks. Moreover, regarding oil, feed some oil into the line when assembling all the lines, since many times turbos will fail due to no lubrication on initial start up. By the time oil gets to the turbo, its already spinning at 2-3k rpm or more.

Regarding software, what you will need is obd2b to obd1 conversion harness for ecu, and an obd1 ecu. It can be out of integra/civic, it doesnt matter. Since you are using a nonvtec d-series, p28 is not neccessary, but will work.

Contact Zeeman at HiVelocity, he has a LOT of experience with N/A and Turbo hondas, and he has seen it all. Dyno tuning is KEY to successfull and reliable setup. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes you NEED to convert to OBD1 and use a chipped p28, you can't really chip your stock ECU, so converting to OBD1 is the solution.

sorry if this was a dead thread..but if im swapping in a d16y8 from my d16y7, but plan on running boost so dont really care much for the vtech i stil gotta convert from obd2 to obd1 for tuning purposes..which obd 1 ecu would be best? p28? even though thats for vtech if i keep the selonoid unplugged it wont run it? or are there better ecus to choose from?

Could i just use my y7 head on the y8 block and leave it at that? still with the p28?

I believe you can use the p74 ecu from integra.

Also, the y7 head will fit on the y8, but why?

i'm just worried about the compression on the y8 head being already vtech cause i wanna boost it. i will be building the bottom end however. vitara pistons and eagle rods.

I've just completed a D16Y7 build and kept the stock head. Had it rebuilt with new valves, springs, seals, and guides. The difference between the Y7 and Y8 head is the Y7 was optimized for fuel efficiency and has slightly smaller intake ports.

I've been told that the stock Y7 head is good for up to 450hp.
