Timing Belt Talking

Timing Belt Talking
Hey folks,
Like to thank you guys from advance for your consideration and helpful insight. My winter beater which is a 98 DX (Deluxe) hatch has been nice to me since late fall. It exceeds my expectations even while combating severe cold temperatures.
As for the last 62 hours a sound has Generated under the T-BELT . I assume the worst for the well being of the existing belt. Currently I don't know what instinct to go with. Take it apart in the frigid cold weather outside ( I'm inclined with working with my hands well and understand automobiles) on my day off during the weekend, to install the new belt right away with other associated parts ( t-belt tensioner), or further diagnose on whatever else it may be.
What option should I go with. Trust my instinct that the t-belt may have lost a few teeths, and just dive directly to that problem?
or investigate on what else it might be?
