P06 vs P08/P28 Question(s)

I dont know if this is the right place for this question but here goes anyway, please move to the right place if need be.

Can a P06 ecu be used in place of a P08?

If so..

What issues might/will there be besides no v-tec?

Also..

Can I do an emmisions test this way?

Im sure it will run just fine, not to the best of its capability but it will run decent. If the engine is healthy, if you retard the timing a little i dont see why you would have a problem with etest.

I've seen people run p06's to pass etests before on their single cams.

The main difference is the fuel and ignition maps being different between the 2 ecus. I also believe the p08 does not use a 4-wire o2 sensor like the p06 does.

Sounds good...

Sounds good so far..

For the record I'm running a chipped p06 with p08 maps.

So...what's the point of this thread then? If it has p08 maps means...its basically p08 just no vtec I guess unless it was added.

I should have made it clear that v-tec was added.

V-tec was added.

So...then you have a proper ecu for your engine. If the right software was uploaded then though the ecu has one stamp, it functions as a p08.

Sort of correct.

There were minor adjustments made, which is why I'm querying that those adjustments will probably affect the performance at emmisions testing, at least to some extent.

And those adjustments were?

Dude, i honestly don't see a point to this thread. If you are going for etest, retard the timing, warm up the cat and go for it.

/end thread

The point is to find out if a p06 will work/throw codes/etc. if I use it instead of my chipped ecu for emmisions. I'd been advised that the chipped ecu I'm using may not pass. Also the addition of v-tec might be another reason for concern for emmsions as the car used to have a y7 motor in it.

In anycase I got what I wanted out of this thread.

Thanks those who gave answers. Although I didn't think some people^^ would get so frustrated by my simple questions.
