Crankshaft Position Sensor

Guys, I'm new to this forum so I apologize if I'm breaking protocol, but I've searched high and low trying to find a DIY for how to replace the crankshaft position sensor for my 2001 Civic. My code is pulling a P0335. Thanks in advance for your help!

Maybe a few additional thoughts. I just had the timing belt, water pump done about a month ago. I was driving it the other day and it started stuttering and threw up a CEL. I took it to a mechanic and he said it's the sensor and it has to be replaced. I ordered one, but I also did some research online and some people say that it might not be the sensor if the timing belt was recently done. Can I get someone to help me troubleshoot this before I dump money chasing a problem? Thanks!

Looks like we are breaking protocol, but I just wanted to add that this exact same thing just happened to me: I had the timing belt and water hose changed in my '04 Civic less about three weeks ago, and it started bucking and threw a P0335 Crank Position Sensor Code. And no, I don't want to pay the "three hours" of labor to get it looked at in a shop.

get it looked at with a scanner. if the sensor is not responding as in not reading properly, well you will need another one. in that case, all accessory belts come off, timing belt cover comes off and sensor should be accessible from there. It could be that during the process of timing belt change, they accidentally hit it, thus now its acting up.

If the timing belt job was recent, i would say go back and complain.

No it's not coolant.

I know exactly what happened, cause it has happened to me probably 3-4 times, You had a 10+ year old sensor that hasn't moved in it's lifetime. You have to un-bolt and re-bolt the sensor while performing the TB. Just from doing that, it caused the sensor to prematurely fail.

Is it the tech's fault? No, not unless he actually dropped it hard. But speaking from experience, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason why they fail right after.. it's just cause they're old and you disturbed it. Or maybe the impact from the impact gun on the crank pulley vibrations the sensor too much.. who knows.

If the shop is creditable at all.. they should NOT be charging you 3+ hours for replacing a sensor that they just had out a month ago. Everytime this happened to one of my customers, I'd do it for free, as long as they would cover the part.
