Lightbulb "HOW TO" protect your Honda's rear quarter panels from rust!!!!

How can you protect your Honda from rusting behind the rear wheels?

You've the seen them on the road...maybe you own one...a Honda with rust behind the rear wheels(rear quarter panel rust). There's a simple and easy way to prevent this from happening and/or to stop the current rust from getting larger.

First: On the lip above the rear wheel is a rubber strip. . .pull this off; it allows moisture and debris to be caught in the seam between the quarter panel and the inner wheel well. You want this seam to be able to dry out. These rubber strips can be called "rust strips" because they cause rust. why didnt the engineers think about this!

If you think they are a good idea, cuz they prevent stone chips from starting rust, then maybe try what i did, I removed the strip and filled it full of silicone, then put it back on (clean and dry the metal and paint surface beneath really well before reinstalling it). Hopefully this will stop water from penetrateing and locking in there causing the rust, as well as the strip protecting the paint surface from debris.

Second: Go inside the trunk and pull the side panels back so that you can see the inside of the quarter panel. Take an oil can with motor oil and shoot the same seam (listed in step one) from the inside of the car with oil. The oil should drip out on the floor in front of the wheel if you got it good, so put some paper down. I f you can see visible rust inside the quarter panel, soak it with oil. This will neutralize the rust and stop it from spreading. Repeat this in the spring and fall.

I hope this helps your long lasting, happy relationship with your honda

How can you protect the bottom of your doors from rusting?

I forgot about the doors!!!

This is a continuation of the quarter panals, might as well do it all at once while you have the oil squirt can out!

On the bottom lip on the inside of the door you will see three holes in each door. These holes allow water to drain from the inside of the door.

Fill an oil can with a long slim nozzle with motor oil. Insert the tip way into the holes. Coat the bottom of the inside of the door with oil. This will stop current rust and also prevent rust from ever forming.

Do this every 3 to 6 months and your doors will never rust.

*REMEMBER Doing this routin religiously can/will greatly increase the resale value of your Honda!!!

Treat her right

Definitly remove the rubber strip. I don't think my car had one when I got it used. No rust forming at all. I also don't have a problem with stone chips

The car I bought from my cousin (originated from florida) had those rust strips on it, I was like shocked when I saw it cause he drove it for like 3 winters after he imported it, luckily no rust formed and the strips are gone.

100bucks a year is cheap insurance on having your car last for years...and if you ever get anybody work done they will re-spray that area for free!

Time to save to grind it all out and fix her up.

I took off the rubber strip last year and have been cleaning that part everytime I wash my car. I feel the inner side with my fingers until there is no more dirt on the metal. The actual tire well will have dirt cause your hand just can't reach all that well, but the metal part should be ok clean.

There is this very tiny little rusty spot on the metal, so tiny that you won't see it unless you are 6 inches away from it. I used some rust-off liquid to rub it off and got my car Krown-ed the next morning.
