brake light problem or bulb??
hey guys,
my gf has a 2002 civic si.. a few days ago I noticed that her left brake light is out so I thought her bulb is broken.. so her father took the bulb out of it's socket.. but then we noticed that her taillight does NOT light up anymore.. I always thought they were two different bulbs since it use to light up..
so, I put the bulb back in and the taillight is fine but the brake light is still out..
1) aren't the taillights and the brake lights two different bulbs??
2) the taillight and the brake light seems to be one bulb.. if so, could something be wrong with the brake light system somewhere??
please, any suggestions and comments are welcome.. I was going to just replace the bulb but this seems pretty strange to me.. thanks in advance for any help you can give me..

a few friends said that some cars just use one big bulb and the bulb will shine brighter for the brake lights.. thus, there might be two sets of filaments in the bulb.. so, I would need to change the bulb just for the brake lights even thought the taillights still work.. seems like a waste.. I wonder who came up with this idea..
I just thought of something.. I should've put the bulb from the right taillight into the left (broken) one just to test.. oh well.. it was late so it never dawned on me.. I'll give that a shot tonite..

thanks everybody for the info.. I'm going to go to Canadian Tire to pick up a bulb.. seems kinda wasteful to toss out a bulb just cuz one of the two uses doesn't work.. oh well.. damn car companies..

ok, the bulbs are actually 7443.. the 1157 bulbs do have the dual filaments but the bottom of the bulbs are round.. the bottom of the actual 7443 bulbs are flat just like the ones from the civic..
I just bought the 7443 bulbs and they fit and work.. just thought I'd let you guys know..
edit: also, the stock bulb says 7443 on it..
