Best way to prevent rust from spreading?

Hi,
After a rinse off of my car on friday i notice a small bubble of rust on my quarter and another spot (dont remember where)... but anyways what is the best way to repair this and prevent it from spreading? I rust proof my car yearly at krown (so far twice since i've had it) oh.. i also had a thin line of rust on my door.. i kinda sanded that off and used tremclad paint to seal it during the winter...would i take a similar approach?

unfortunately the only way to get rid of rust is cutting it off and replacing with new metal....or bondo

if you want your car looking tip top go get a paint job if not than wait till your rust gets to the point where its noticeable and than paint it but dont wait till the point where holes develop is the rust is sandable its lighter on your wallet if theres holes most QUALITY body shop will replace it with new metal so ya

but ya you could do your approach also personaly i wouldnt but if your on a budget than go for it

the only thing that would stop me from doing that is colour matching best way tho would be to sand off the area paint it than clear coat the area and a bit of the surrounding area so it blends in but again one screw up and your car might look like ****

I heard they work very well.

those are electronic rust protection. It basically sends a current (electricity) through your body preventing rust. Its expensive and drains your battery but it works reel good

OH YA ZINC

chemistry ftw

if my memory is good this is how zinc works

you attach zinc onto the bare metal of your car so that when your car gets scratched ions from the zinc would cover the area so that rust wont form in that scratch

Best thing to do, is not cover the rust with paintright away. Make sure all the moisture is out. Spray wd40 on the rust, let it soak, then sand it off, spray more wd40, put some grease on it for an air tight seal (or wipe it down very well, and cover with primer and then paint.). the wd40 displaces any water that may be on the surface, water, metal, air = corrosion. youwant to minimize that effect.

( did this to my 1995 Blazer on two spots over 5yrs ago, and it's still good, the Blazer is sold, when it was the body was perfect, no rust.

Just my two cents.

its a small *** spot that you wont really see so colour matchin wont b a huge deal.. im just talkin about the seal.. if the tremclad rust paint would seal better in this situation or if the touchup paint would give the same results

also how much is touchup paint and whats the best place to get it?

You van get touch up paint at Canadian tire and tremclad but for the best sealant I'm going to ASSUME touch up paint because I think tremclad is only for plastic while touch up pain was specifically made for a car but the touch up paint shouldn't be more than 5-10 bucks MAX

for primer any auto body primer would do (dont cheap out on it tho) sand the area off and apply 3-4 thin layers of primer (after taping off of course) than put your paint and your clear and your good

What Bengali said. Plus, primer helps the paint adhere properly, if not, it will bubble, flake and rust will come back with a vengance.
