Engagement Ring?

Any ideas WHERE to buy an engagement ring? I've look at Tiffany's and Birks and a lot of people say that there diamonds aren't the greatest. I know that if I were to purchase a ring from a retailer like the above stores I'd receive a better warranty than if I were to go with a wholesaler...let me know your opinions...

Cheers

A lot of the big chains are overpriced. I talked to a small jeweller downtown by Eaton Centre, and he was great. He was going to custom-make me a ring right to my specs, and you can even design it however you like. He answered all of my questions and offered me a good deal. If you want his info, let me know.

The only reason why I didn't buy from him was cause my buddy's mom is a dealer as well and gave me an even better deal.

People's is good I hear.

i say get her an onion ring. Its still a ring afterall.

Not to sound negative, but I'm amazed at how well the diamond industry has made diamonds such a desired object. Excellent marketing i must say.

Why not consider other "rocks" like emeralds and stuff? (i dont know the names of the rest.

And yes Canadian diamonds are some of the best in the world, plus they are usually less than ones from Africa. (Watched a presentation on diamonds in class once. very good!) I even got sheet that tells about the different grades.

Anyways good luck!

HI there!

Well Where do I start!
Those Places ( Tiffany's - Birks - People's - Spence Diamonds )
arent the best places - But Birks has a nice rang of Diamond - Before you go out, research different types of cuts!!! Because thats one of the first question they'll ask you !!

Try the one in Eaton Centre -

Place to check out is on YOUNGE STREET
Theres the jewellery exchange shop if your tight on $$$

And Its true - A girls bestfriend will be forever a Diamond

Use the PULOVR Mandate:

Two words:

Cubic Zirconia

Can't believe that Tiffany's diamonds are not good quality They certainly look amazing, plus the girl will freak when she sees that powder blue box with the torquiose ribbon...

Tiffany's diamonds are excellent quality. However, like any other place, they will have good diamonds and bad diamonds. You will overpay at a place like Tiffany's, Birks, Peoples, etc. though. Mom and Pop shops are probably the best. Look for a place that will give you a good deal as well as provide you with good service (ie. money back guarantee if the diamond given isn't as promised). Do NOT buy a diamond without certification papers from one of the gemologist (is that a word?) organizations.

I've done a tonne of research on this stuff over the last few months. Here are a few sites:

http://www.goodoldgold.com
http://www.usacerteddiamonds.com (this guy has a good online rep for the sale of diamonds...he's in T.O.)

Oh yeah, a diamond is such a bloody waste of money. I would rather use the money to buy a house (as would my gf). I ended up buying a relatively small diamond for her. I hope your gf isn't materialistic.

I fink she will bitch slap you back to Chinatown

hahahah...

a diamond is forever, but are you gonna ever sell that damn thing?! hahahah

they're such beautiful gems, but how come basic economic theory does not apply to it?

High Supply = Lower price

I know why, because women make it

High Supply + High demand = insane prices

oh well, women, can't live with them, can't live without them

BWAHAHAHA!! That's a good one. Almost fell outta my seat here at work

She's a reasonable person and I think she'll understand.

She wanted a promise ring this past x-mas and I was going to by one with a diamond in it but she changed her mind and said that I should save up for a nice engagement ring. So if I tell her "this" point she might change her mind again cuz we're in the talks of moving out and looking for a place
