stock d16z6 fuel consumption
first off, i did do a search and posted a msg in the following thread:
http://www.torontocivics.com/tccforu...5&pagenumber=4
but no one seem to answer my question, maybe my question was stupid or a question being covered before, i did try to search, so i finally start a thread now.
here's the question:
i've seen some people with 92-95 civics getting about 400-500 kms a full tank...
i've heard an EG full tank is 45L lately because i never drove it to the bottom, so i thought it's only 38L... well... i've been getting 450km max....
i've a STOCK d16z6 with CAI, and a 2" all the way back exhaust with a stock header... what is my mileage suppose to be on a stock d16z6 with no real mods? i see you guys getting 400-500kms, but i guess you have swapped motor...... i shift at 2800-3000rpm....
crxfu(mike) said i should be getting 600-700km out of it.... i'm not even close to 500... he recommend me to check the timing on my engine....
am i really getting horrible mileage? if yes, what are your suggestions? like what should i look for other than engine timing... i know i should get a new CAI filter... but what else?

haha... the problem is... my friend's 2002 camry LE (4dr auto) is getting about the same mileage...
full tank 65L or 60L i recalled... and he gets about 600-620KM on a full tank (approx 10KM per 1L)
my car... don't know if tank is 45L or 40L or 35L or 38L (anyone confirm me on the size of the tank??) and i'm only getting 400-450KM (the best i squeeze outta it was 47x and i'm not a vtec ***** haha...
so i'm getting 450km/45L?? that comes out to 10km per 1L as well... so civic is not better off than a camry..... (this is a myth buster thingy now haha)

why not drive around till empty, then fill up your tank and see how many litres it takes? not a hard way to figure it out... And i wouldnt even worry about it, you are getting decent gas mileage, its not bad. My buddies si gets about the same

so you mean a "stock" intake will do better than a CAI? or should i go short ram with a K&n air filter?
i'm on CAI with an k&n air filter, but i think i need to replace the filter soon since its really damn dirty like shyte (maybe that's one reason) haha...
i've done what kieran said... i drove it around today till the gas light came on... went to gas station to pump my gas... pump all the way upto 38.x L and the gas mileage was 47x km...
so 470/38 = 12.37KM per 1L which is reasonable i guess... and plus i got old sparkplug wires and a damn dirty air filter... so maybe i'll go 500km when all the stuff are done...

well yah when u put an upgraded intake on yer car, more air=more fuel to the motor. But i doubt it would be a huge difference. Ive never drivin with a stock intake in my life so i wouldnt know. And cleaning the filter would help a lil

That's normal dude. I have a d16z6. I get around 300-350km. If i go on the highway only i get around 385 and i'm almost down to the empty line. I drive an automatic too so standard will be a little better on gas. I beat my car most of the time.

haha... you should get more mileage on the highway.... i've done some research, and this week (before the gas price rocketed), i was doing testings.... i get about 450km on 38L (30% city and 70% highway)... once i did all city 90% i get about 420km on 37L... today... i finish my 3rd trial 90% highway, and only 10% city (going onto highway and coming home from highway exits.. a few lights to the workplace picking up by gf from work)... 485km so far still not light up yet!
so i've proven the civic can go 500km all highway and about 450 all city! these are based on a 5spd si (d16z6 motor) pretty much stock, just larger exhaust piping and a CAI with a dirty filter haha...
by research on the 92-95 civic Si HBs... it states 29/36 (city/highway) mpg... through calculations 36mpg should mean about 500km on 40L tank of gas.... which is fairly accurate! haha

Driving on the highway will greatly improve fuel economy, provided you aren't going at crazy man speeds. Keep around the speed limit and you should be good.
And I know that you already pointed out that you shift at about 3000rpm, but the speed in which you accelerate also affects gas milage greatly. Press the gas lightly and gas milage will increase slightly again.

Umm I usually get... 300miles per tank, I dont think I've ever filled it up more than 32L though. I think the best way to check, is fill up to the top, drive around say 100kms or so, then top off again, that way you can divide the amount of litres you filled up by 100km to get L/100 kms, or whatever we use in canada for fuel consumption.
