I own 16s and the ride is def worst than before.. Not that bad
I also own 17s on my 3 but those are stock m the ride is good there , but then again those are stock
I drove a 94 civic with 18s and it was bad..
The guy ask for advice so that is what people are giving him , for you to assume people never owned rims is not nice , sorry mate

I wouldn't go any bigger than 16 on older civics. Though newer civics are different. They take much bigger rims. I've been in a 08 Si with 19s and it wasn't bad. Yes it gets a bit harsher as you reduce the sidewall height but its really not bad.
Just make sure you get the right tire size for the car, so your speedo isn't off by much.

..i used to own 17 inch konig rims... traded em for 15's. looks wayyy better. the ride quality is terrible with a 45 or smaller sidewall, you feel everything in the road. also you have a better chance of bending/damaging your rims with a thinner sidewall. i just prefer to keep my civic non-rice... and unless i owned an 8th gen, 16's are the biggest id ever go..

8th gen civic comes with the following stock rims sizes.
DX - 15 inch Steels
LX & EX - 16 inch alloy
SI - 17 inch alloy
18 inch will fit with stock ride height just fine with 45 or 40 sidewall. But you have to be careful if you lower it. That's my 2 cents.
Check out 8thCivic.com - 8th Generation Civics and you will see 8th gen civics with some sexy looking rims up to 18 inch.

Proper tire size would be
195/45r18 only read 0.3% too fast
205/45r18 would read 1.1% too fast
215/40r18 would read 0.8% too fast
According to Tire size calculator
195/45r18 only read 0.3% too fast
205/45r18 would read 1.1% too fast
215/40r18 would read 0.8% too fast

Stock tire size for 2006 civic is 205/55R16 I believe. Therefore:
195/45r18 would read 0.1% too slow
205/45r18 would read 1.6% too slow
215/40r18 would read 0.4% too fast
